Supernatural VR Workout App Relaunch: Price & Features

Supernatural VR Workout App Relaunch: Price & Features

Supernatural's VR workout app relaunch went live today in Early Access on the Meta Horizon Store, but the beloved fitness service returns as an independent company charging double what subscribers paid under Meta, according to The Verge. The Supernatural Meta Horizon Store listing is open to everyone on the Quest storefront, regardless of prior Founding Member status, 9to5Google reports.

Meta put Supernatural into maintenance mode in January 2026, halting new content before the app's founders acquired the rights and relaunched it as an independent company, UploadVR reported. What's live today is functional but still being built out: thousands of workouts and a new environment are ready now, while multiplayer workouts and mobile tracking remain in development.

A fitness app Meta gave up on

Supernatural's path back to independence starts with a deal Meta ultimately walked away from. Meta acquired Within, the studio behind Supernatural, in a deal reported at roughly $400 million, VR.org reported, a price tag big enough to draw an antitrust challenge from the Federal Trade Commission. The FTC dropped that case in early 2023, according to VR.org.

Meta halted new content for Supernatural in January 2026 as part of a broader retreat from first-party VR software, VR.org reported. Earlier this year, Supernatural's founders announced they had reclaimed the rights and would relaunch later in 2026 as an independent company called Supernatural Health, UploadVR reports.

The new venture is a 15-person team continuing to build out the full experience, according to UploadVR. The company's announcement, quoted by VR.org, described the group as a small team working to bring the product "to the next level." CEO James Senior framed the Supernatural fitness app return as a community effort: "It's not every day you get to make a comeback, but thanks to the Supernatural community, that's exactly what we're doing," he said, according to Engadget.

How much does the new Supernatural VR subscription cost?

Supernatural's subscription price jumps from Meta's discounted $9.99 a month, or $100 a year, to $20 a month or $200 a year, the same rate the app charged at its 2020 launch, Engadget reports.

New subscribers get a 7-day free trial on the monthly plan, or a 14-day trial with annual billing, which also saves $40 compared with paying monthly, according to 9to5Google. Anyone who registered as a Founding Member before today's Early Access launch locked in a discounted $180 first-year rate along with digital collectibles, UploadVR reports, but that offer closed the moment Early Access went live.

Meta's $9.99 price was a deliberate discount meant to widen adoption while it owned the app, VR.org reported. The independent version returns to the $20 monthly and $200 annual rates reported as the app's original prices. VR.org's analysis put it plainly: "$20 a month is real money, and Supernatural will be asking for it," according to VR.org.

What a Supernatural workout actually involves

For anyone who skipped the original run, Supernatural pairs coach-led sessions with popular music, turning exercise into something closer to a rhythm game than a gym class. Players swing virtual bats at incoming targets, duck under obstacles, and kick in time with the beat while a coach calls out cues, according to 9to5Google.

Those sessions play out inside realistic virtual environments, and the team says the visuals are getting an upgrade in this release, 9to5Google reports. Today's new home environment, Laguna Torre, a glacial lake in Argentine Patagonia, is the first example of that upgrade, according to The Verge.

What new Supernatural VR workouts and features are live today

Day-one Early Access ships with thousands of workouts, including remastered favorites and all the coaches returning users know, 9to5Google reports. There are also hundreds of licensed music tracks included at launch, according to The Verge.

New Supernatural VR workouts start arriving on a weekly cadence beginning next week, with the first fresh batch expected by the end of this month, Engadget reports.

Two features users may be expecting aren't part of today's build. Supernatural Together, the rebuilt real-time mode for working out with friends, is still in a testing phase, and interested users can sign up for the beta now, according to 9to5Google. A mobile companion app for tracking progress and heart rate is also still in development, per The Verge and UploadVR.

The developers have said more back-catalog favorites, new music, higher-definition destinations, and additional features are coming in the weeks and months ahead, according to Engadget.

Transferring fitness history before the December 3 deadline

Returning members don't have to start from zero. Supernatural says players from the old app can transfer their points, start date, streaks, favorites, and badges to the new version, through a window that closes December 3, The Verge reports. The reporting lists what carries over and the deadline but doesn't spell out the transfer steps themselves.

That date is doing double duty. The legacy Meta-era version of Supernatural shuts down entirely on December 3, ending all existing subscriptions tied to it, according to VR.org.

The relaunch also adds household accounts, letting up to four people share one headset with individual profiles, according to 9to5Google. Founding Members receive a custom virtual bat immediately, with more reward drops promised throughout the Early Access period, The Verge reports.

What to watch next

Supernatural's team says music licensing deals are also on the roadmap, alongside the multiplayer and mobile features already in testing, according to UploadVR. None of that changes the near-term decision facing returning users.

Fitness history has to move over before December 3, when the legacy Meta-era app shuts down for good. The new $20-a-month subscription isn't tied to that deadline; it remains available after December 3, based on the reporting here.
